Aims & Objectives

Our aim is to provide the local community in Julatten, FNQ and surrounding areas with an opportunity to discover and explore the Japanese martial art of Aikido.

Aikido is a gentle and non-violent martial art that is suitable for persons of all ages. The training methodology is based on a cooperative learning paradigm. As there are no contests or competitions, the activity can be safely performed by persons of all ages. Such learning activity is conducted in collaboration with other practitioners, and at a mutually comfortable pace that is pre-determined and agreed to by each participant.

Aikido practice aims to encourage and develop the following personal skills and attributes:

Our objectives are to:

  1. in the short term, establish regular classes to gauge local community participation rates and interest;
  2. in the medium term, provide members of the Julatten community and surrounding areas with a form of physical fitness activity, based on martial principles, with the aim of developing a range of personal skills that can be applied in daily life;
  3. in the longer term establish a community-based, non-profit martial arts club with the concomitant aim of further promoting the art of Aikido;
